Shellers From The Lone Star State

Shellers From The Lone Star State

It was another fun filled day of shelling and exploring with Dick and Sherri from Texas. We spent the morning shelling then stopped by an island outpost for a nice lunch. The afternoon was a little more adventurous. We walked through the mangroves to an isolated stretch of beach and Sherri did a great job of exploring the mangrove swamp on the way to the beach.  I look forward to our next trip in December. (I will try to stay out of the swamps on our next outing) Capt. Brian

I have been a Shelling Guide to Cayo Costa State Park since 1995. Many people know me as the Shelling Guide and Captain with Captiva Cruises over the past 20 years. In 2016 I began solely offering private small boat charters to the islands of Pine Island Sound including Cayo Costa State Park, Cabbage Key, Useppa Island, Pine Island and North Captiva. I am a certified Florida Master Naturalist, licensed USCG Captain, avocational photographer, seashell enthusiast and passionate about the history, people and culture of Southwest Florida, especially Cayo Costa. I volunteer as a member of Friends of Cayo Costa State Park and have great respect for the heritage of Cayo Costa. My goal is to provide guests with an overall experience and appreciation for the waters, islands, shells, plants, marine life, wildlife, history and people of this unique area of Southwest Florida.

Beautiful shells…with an interesting sand dollar find…looks like another great day. The picture of the mother bird with the two fledgling babies walking along the beach is precious.

Gorgeous day – the snowy plovers were darling and so much enjoyed the dolphins. As always this trip was fantastic. Thanks again and see you soon. Dick and Sherry

The snowy plovers are adorable and that pelican pic is great – caught his head at a perfect angle (I have a thing for bird eyes being so clear!) Nice whelk, too! I sense there is a swamp story to be told 🙂
