Janet From Illinois

I enjoyed the afternoon with Janet from Illinois. The weather was absolutely perfect and the water clear. Janet has an excellent shelling eye and a great knowledge of the shells. I was most impressed. The time seemed to fly as we walked and talked. We talked about Ann Morrow Lindbergh and shells from from far away places. Some of the favorite finds were an “almost albino”whelk, an albino cockle, sunrise tellins, and tusk shells. Thank you Janet from Illinois for an educational walk and talk on the beach.

I have been a Shelling Guide to Cayo Costa State Park since 1995. Many people know me as the Shelling Guide and Captain with Captiva Cruises over the past 20 years. In 2016 I began solely offering private small boat charters to the islands of Pine Island Sound including Cayo Costa State Park, Cabbage Key, Useppa Island, Pine Island and North Captiva. I am a certified Florida Master Naturalist, licensed USCG Captain, avocational photographer, seashell enthusiast and passionate about the history, people and culture of Southwest Florida, especially Cayo Costa. I volunteer as a member of Friends of Cayo Costa State Park and have great respect for the heritage of Cayo Costa. My goal is to provide guests with an overall experience and appreciation for the waters, islands, shells, plants, marine life, wildlife, history and people of this unique area of Southwest Florida.

Lots of people from Illinois down there lately. Wish I was one of them. 🙁

Wish you were too. I have a whole day planned for when you get down here and the list keeps growing.

Just want to say thanks again for a great trip. It was really amazing how I mentioned that I'd love to find a Sunrise Tellin, a shell that I'd read about but never seen before, and in the next hour or so we found several! I'm looking forward to cleaning up that pretty welk. Love the smell of shells boiling on the kitchen stove. It's the next best thing to being there! Looking forward to another trip some day. All the best to you!
